The U.S. Embassy in Bratislava is pleased to bring a renowned jazz quartet the Chris Byars, back to Slovakia June 30-July 7, 2015 for the 6th time. The first time Quartet visited Slovakia was in 2008. The Quartet will tour Slovak cities sharing ideas and best practices with arts students, teachers, and the general public and will perform in Bratislava, Brezno, Kezmarok, Lucenec.
The workshop taking part in Kokava nad Rimavicou with Roma children choir Cerechnora will focus on collaborative performance with the Quartet that will take place in Bratislava on July 6 at 7pm on the Main Square.

Summer jazz workshop organized in cooperation with the Slovak Jazz Association, Konzervatorium,Tolstého 1, Bratislava
Members of the Quartet include Ari Roland (bass), Stefan Schatz (drums), Chris Byars (tenor saxophone), and Zaid Nasser (alto saxophone). The Chris Byars Jazz Quartet (New York) is inspired by jazz music from the 1930’s through 1950’s, also known as the “Golden Age of Jazz.” The ensemble’s repertoire includes pieces by jazz legends such as Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie, and Billie Holiday, as well as their own critically acclaimed original compositions.
