Today, April 8, we celebrate International Roma Day. As Secretary Pompeo has said, “on this day, we recognize the rich cultural heritage and traditions of the Romani people and their contributions to the dozens of countries around the world in which they live, including the United States.” We were proud to team with young Roma athletes, fellow diplomats, journalists, NGO representatives, and government officials to hold our fifth annual Roma Day Soccer Tournament on April 5. We call on all governments to join us in our celebration of Romani culture and heritage, and to work towards fully integrating Roma communities into civic and economic life.
