For over a decade, the U.S. Department of State, in cooperation with the Association of Holocaust Organizations (AHO) in New York, has helped to organize the Holocaust Teacher Training Program. To date, this initiative has brought over 250 teachers from approximately thirteen countries to United States, including 28 teachers from Slovakia.
This one-week seminar in the United States exposes teachers to new and innovative methods of teaching the Holocaust and creates opportunities for them to interact with other teachers addressing this difficult subject.
The U.S. Embassy in Bratislava and the Department of State pays for airfare, while AHO organizations in the United States cover all in-country costs for participating teachers. Participants must be secondary school teachers (middle or high school) of social studies or literature, fully fluent in English, and nominated by their governments (either the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or the Ministry of Education).
The U.S. Embassy issues a call for applications near the beginning of each New Year and generally selects two participants from Slovakia for this program annually. Please continue to visit our website for more information about how to apply.
