Holocaust Teacher One-Week Training Seminar for secondary school teachers, June – July, 2020
For almost two decades, the U.S. Department of State, in cooperation with the Association of Holocaust Organizations (AHO) in New York, has helped to organize the Holocaust Teacher Training Program. To date, this initiative has brought over 300 teachers from approximately thirteen countries to United States, including 32 teachers from Slovakia.
This one-week seminar in the United States exposes teachers to new and innovative methods of teaching the Holocaust and creates opportunities for them to interact with other teachers addressing this difficult subject.
Participants must be secondary school teachers (middle or high school) of social studies or literature, fluent in English, and nominated by their governments (either the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or the Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Sport). Candidates should have experience in teaching the Holocaust and be prepared to actively participate in this demanding program.
The U.S. Embassy in Bratislava and the Department of State pay for airfare, while AHO organizations in the United States cover all in-country costs for participants. Teachers will be housed on the campuses of participating education institutions.
